Step 05 / Client Advisory

Before We Market the Location, Let's Understand the Decision.

Abilene Plastic Surgery → Mineral Wells, Texas

Don't market the second location until we understand why it should exist.

A second location is not initially a marketing project. It is a business hypothesis. Before recommending pages, Google Business Profiles, paid campaigns, or launch promotions, I want to understand the decision well enough to help make it correctly.

Established Market

Abilene

  • Surgical + Non-Surgical
  • Breast Augmentation
  • Tummy Tuck
  • Liposuction
  • Facelift
  • Botox
  • Fillers
  • Laser
  • CoolSculpting
  • Skincare

Validate before we amplify.

Proposed Market

Mineral Wells

  • Non-Surgical Only
  • Botox
  • Dermal Fillers
  • Laser Skin Resurfacing
  • CoolSculpting
  • Medical-Grade Skincare

Section 01 / Before I Walk Into the Room

Arrive with questions, not a predetermined campaign.

Before the meeting I would review everything currently available about the existing Abilene operation. Not to fabricate research about a fictional company — but to understand what the existing business can teach us about the proposed one.

Current Business Performance

  • Revenue mix between surgical and non-surgical services

  • Non-surgical revenue by service

  • Patient volume by service

  • Repeat-visit frequency

  • Average patient value and lifetime value where available

  • Capacity and utilization

  • Seasonality

  • Highest-margin or strategically important services

Patient Geography

  • Where existing patients live

  • Whether patients already travel from Mineral Wells or surrounding areas

  • Drive-time patterns

  • Geographic concentration of non-surgical patients

  • Referral patterns

Current Marketing Performance

  • Organic traffic by service and geography

  • Search queries and lead sources

  • Calls, forms, and Google Business Profile activity

  • Local visibility and conversion paths

  • Existing email database and segmentation

  • Review volume and reputation signals

Operations

  • Provider availability and staffing plans

  • Scheduling, equipment, and treatment capacity

  • Hours and intake process

  • Cross-location scheduling capability

Section 02 / The Questions I Would Ask

Organized around decisions, not topics.

Select a decision to expand.

Questions

  • What created the idea for this location?

  • Are current patients already coming from that market?

  • Is this based on observed demand, referral relationships, provider opportunity, real estate, competitive conditions, or another reason?

  • What alternatives were considered?

  • What evidence would make leadership more confident in the decision?

Strategic Purpose

Determine whether we're validating demonstrated demand or attempting to create new demand.

Section 03 / What I Would Educate the Client About

One brand. Two local markets. Two distinct digital entities.

Select a topic to expand.

I would not recommend building a separate website by default. One authoritative brand website with a clear location architecture is the stronger foundation. Mineral Wells should have a substantial location page — not a thin placeholder — with its own address, phone, hours, providers, services actually offered there, directions, and conversion actions. Relevant service pages should clearly identify where each treatment is available. The surgical/non-surgical distinction must be obvious. Duplicate location copy creates confusion for both patients and search engines.

Conceptual structure: /locations/abilene/ and /locations/mineral-wells/

Section 04 / The Opening Framework

Validate → Build → Establish → Launch → Learn

Select a phase to expand.

Objective

Before major launch investment.

Work

  • Define business goals

  • Analyze existing patient geography

  • Understand service economics

  • Assess demand indicators

  • Define target patient

  • Confirm capacity

  • Establish success metrics

The Question We're Answering

"Do we understand the business case well enough to market it?"

Section 05 / The Relationship Between the Locations

The second location should extend the patient relationship, not just add a transaction.

Abilene — Non-Surgical + Surgical

A Mineral Wells patient may begin with a non-surgical service and, where clinically appropriate and patient-driven, later become aware of surgical services available in Abilene. Existing patients may gain a more convenient option for ongoing non-surgical care. The goal is patient continuity and lifetime relationship value — not aggressive cross-selling.

This is about patient convenience, continuity, and appropriate awareness. Not about pushing non-surgical patients toward surgery.

Section 06 / What I Would Not Do

Good advisory also means knowing what not to recommend.

Launch a second standalone website simply because there is a second location.

Create a Google Business Profile before the location is legitimately eligible.

Copy the Abilene location page and swap the city name.

Launch paid media without reliable conversion tracking.

Set a media budget without understanding treatment economics and available capacity.

Measure success solely by traffic, clicks, or leads.

Market services in Mineral Wells that aren't actually available there.

Generate more demand than the location can operationally handle.

Treat the two locations as unrelated businesses.

Section 07 / How I Would Lead the Meeting

Client advisory is not presenting a predetermined answer.

I wouldn't walk into the meeting trying to sell them a second-location marketing package. I'd walk in trying to understand whether the expansion thesis is sound, what success means, what we still don't know, and what decisions need to be made before marketing accelerates it.

Meeting Output

The meeting should end with:

  • Agreed business objectives

  • Known assumptions

  • Open questions

  • Data and access required

  • Digital infrastructure decisions

  • Launch dependencies

  • Owners and next actions

A good advisory meeting doesn't end with more ideas. It ends with greater clarity.

Strategist's Takeaway

The strongest marketing plan cannot rescue a poorly understood expansion decision. My first responsibility would be to help Abilene Plastic Surgery define what Mineral Wells is supposed to accomplish, what evidence supports the opportunity, and what operational realities shape the launch. Then marketing can do what it does best: make the opportunity visible, measurable, and scalable. The objective isn't simply to open another location. It's to create another successful market for the same trusted brand.
